If you haven’t tried avocado toast yet, have you even really lived? Okay, so maybe avocadoes aren’t available where you live, or maybe you’re allergic to them. But outside of those two items – you need to try it. Seriously.
Here’s the basic recipe. Feel free to add other ingredients to enhance the flavor to your liking.
- Bread, 1 to 2 slices per person
- Avocado, 1 per every 2 slices of bread
Toast the bread to a perfect golden brown, with just a bit of crunch to it. While the bread is toasting, cut your avocado(es) in half and toss the seed. Scoop out the flesh and place in a bowl. Throw out the skins.
If you only have one or two avocado, you can mash them with a fork. If you have more than that, you might want to use a potato masher, or a wire pastry blender. You can keep it chunky, or if you choose, continue to mash until it’s smooth.
When the toast is ready, spoon on top of the toast. Add any additional toppings, like sliced tomatoes, fresh herbs, sliced bell pepper, lemon or lime juice, hot sauce, balsamic, grilled onions; you get the idea. Or just sprinkle a little salt and pepper and enjoy!
